Workforce Readiness Instructor

Workforce Readiness Instructor – If you are passionate about helping to ensure that adults who face systemic barriers to education and employment have opportunities to develop beneficial and meaningful skills, then perhaps Dorcas International is the place for you.

A non-profit 501(c)(3), Dorcas International offers adult education, language learning, job training, employment services, citizenship and immigration services, refugee resettlement, clothing and household needs, and more.

The Workforce Readiness Instructor will be responsible for developing and coordinating workforce training programs that help adult students, refugees, and other agency clients develop work competencies and occupational skills for high-growth, high-wage occupations in select industries. The Workforce Readiness Instructor will also assist in identifying opportunities for development of new workforce training programs through ongoing research and outreach to potential employer partners for program development. Candidate will also provide work readiness instruction to program participants and work seamlessly with the Employment Services team for career advising and job placement and retention.

The candidate should have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree (required)
  • At least 3 years of relevant job experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bilingual ability (preferred but not required)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Zoom
  • Flexibility with respect to work hours and adaptability to change
  • Experience working with and respect for low-income urban families
  • Ability to work independently and meet established deadlines
  • Respectful approach and appreciation for diverse cultures and backgrounds

The candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing learning objectives, curriculum, and lesson plans for engaging work-readiness and skills training programs
  • Delivering executive (soft skills) function instruction and integrating technology into instruction
  • Creating and assembling supplementary learning materials as needed
  • Assessing students' understanding of training materials to ensure learning goals are met, including creating intervention plans when necessary
  • Consulting with students on career pathways and assisting in the development of longer-term employment plans
  • Completing required paperwork, including attendance reports and outcome data, per agency policies and funding requirements
  • Coordinating with the Education and Career Pathways Lead on topics for workshops and presentations, considering client needs, interests, and labor market trends
  • Meeting weekly with the Employment Team and collaborating with colleagues on reviewing student work
