A non-profit 501(c)(3), Dorcas International offers adult education, language learning, job training, employment services, citizenship and immigration services, refugee resettlement, clothing and household needs, and more.
The Adult Education Instructor must be able to teach multi-level classes, plan lessons based on the learning needs of culturally diverse students, and maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to learning. The Instructor will support students regarding instruction and program services, and monitor and record student attendance and academic progress. This position requires the teacher to make routine decisions regarding the everyday operation of the classes, meet routinely with a supervisor, and work collaboratively and collegially with program staff.
The candidate should have the following:
Minimum of a bachelors degree
At least two years of teaching experience with adult learners is preferred
TESOL training or a comparable certification for teaching ESL classes is required
Subject matter expertise/experience in specific content areas
Ability to relate well to groups of students of differing abilities and backgrounds
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and through correct written grammar
Ability to collaborate with colleagues individually and as a team
Ability to build a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the interests of students
Ability to engage learners with creative and stimulating instruction
Ability to integrate and use technology for instructional and educational purposes
Bilingual ability preferred
